PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a general-purpose, open-source scripting language that is commonly used for web development. It is primarily used for server-side scripting, but can also be used for command-line scripting and desktop applications. PHP is executed on the server, generating HTML that is then sent to the client. PHP pages contain HTML with embedded code that does something.
